About the Building
Designed by the distinguished architectural firm of Cope & Stewardson, the College of Physicians of Philadelphia’s 22nd Street building is an unusually bold example of early 20th century institutional building designed in the classicism of 17th century England. Deemed a National Historic Landmark in 2002, “this building illuminates what is perhaps the central theme of the history of American medicine, the transformation of an exclusive and somewhat guild-like trade into a modern profession.”
